Stefania Shabatura

Stefania worked as an artist in the textile industry, designing and weaving tapestries that took part in numerous exhibitions. In 1972 she was sentenced for “anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda” to five years of strict-regime imprisonment and three years of exile.

After serving her term she returned to her homeland, and in the years that followed she remained an active figure in Ukraine’s cultural and civic life.
