Maria Ivanova-Raevska
painter · 1840–1912
Maria Ivanova-Raevska was the first woman from the Kharkiv region to receive a degree in the arts, in 1868, and to open her own art school — a charity for the poor, paid for by those who could afford it.
For her students she wrote and published two educational books. Her estate and her grave have been lost to time, and very few pictures and photographs of the artist survive.
