Victoria Amelina (1986-2023)
Ukrainian writer and public figure, organizer of the first literary festival in New York in Donetsk region, which took place in October 2021. After the start of the full-scale invasion, Victoria was involved in documenting Russian war crimes as part of the human rights organization Truth Hounds. In particular, she found the diary of the writer Volodymyr Vakulenko, who was killed by the Russian occupiers in the liberated Izyum Oblast. The writer also worked on a book in English, War and Justice Diary: Looking at Women Looking at War, about women documenting Russian war crimes. Victoria died on July 1 as a result of injuries received as a result of an attack by Russian troops on Kramatorsk.
