Olena Kulchytska

painter, graphic artist, illustrator · 1877–1967

Her work was extremely multidimensional — painting, decorative arts, easel graphics, and the illustration of printed publications — all of it very individual and bright.

Olena worked at the Lviv Museum of Ethnography, where she collected and drew many examples of national dress from different regions and eras. She knew the embroidery of each region and village so perfectly that she could tell, unmistakably, where a costume’s owner came from.
