Paraska Vlasenko

folk painter · 1900–1960

Master of Ukrainian decorative painting. She worked across many kinds of folk art — sketches for carpets, embroideries, architectural decoration and printing, as well as decorative easel panels and painted ceramics.

Her artistic personality was shaped by the creative atmosphere of her native village of Skoptsi, with its teaching and demonstration carpet workshop led by the professional artist Yevgenia Prybylska. More than 500 of her works are preserved in the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art.
