Volodymyr Vakulenko

Volodymyr Vakulenko – writer, poet, translator, public figure.

Volodymyr was killed by the Russian military during the occupation of the village of Kapitolivka, Izyum District, Kharkiv Oblast. Volodymyr was kidnapped in March 2022, and only on November 28 it became known that a DNA examination confirmed his death. It turned out that it was Volodymyr who was in grave number 319 at the improvised cemetery in the Izyum forest.
Vakulenko described his life during the occupation in his diary. Anticipating imprisonment by the Russians, the writer buried him in the garden. And he only told his father about the place. Dad got this diary after the liberation of Kharkiv region together with the writer Victoria Amelina.
